Underneath is a screenshot of a news article by Jane Friedman reading “As of today, there are about half a dozen books being sold on Amazon, with my name on them, that I did not write or publish. Some huckster generated them using Al, hoping to make a quick buck from people who don’t realize I’m not the author. Unfortunately, these scam books were also added to my official Goodreads profile. I don’t think the larger public understands that authors don’t directly control what books appear on their profile. They are automatically added via Amazon and/or submitted by users. To get them removed is not an easy process. A BRIEF UPDATE: After going back and forth a few times with Amazon on this issue, I was notified these junk books would not be removed based on the information I provided. Since I do not own copyright in these Al works and since my name is not trademarked, I’m not sure what can be done.” under the text is a photo of a dumpster/ large bin on fire /ID]
Finally got ahold of the initial movement options, and I’ve been brainstorming a build for my Faerius.
How builds work in this game are insane.
If you like yourself some convoluted build ideas, this game will indulgeyou.
First off - every single move in the game can just be peeled off of it’s monster of origin and stuck somewhere else, as long as the tape is compatible.
So you can straight up just level up a cassette to grab it’s signature move, take it, and put it on a monster you want to use it.
For example, grabbing Dual Wield off of Cryoshear and slapping it on Faerius.
There are also an abundance of easily accessible shops that rotate their stock pretty quickly, and occasionally those shops will have high-rarity stickers. Not just hard-to-find, but some moves can come with random buffs to them. The easiest way to get higher-rarity versions of moves is to level-up cassettes, of course.
And I gotta tell you, the wiki for this game is super helpful for checking compatibility before you spend a bunch of time hunting things down.
I just wanna highlight a couple of really neat moves.
First - the moves that apply coatings, to either yourself or your opponent. If you want your opener to have the Astral type for a few turns? Go for it. There are moves that will automatically activate at the start of combat, before turn order begins, that will change your type for three turns. There’s a shop in West Harbourtown full of those moves.
The other move I want to highlight is in a similar vein - Crossfade. Obtainable from Folklord and one other, iirc.
This is like Baton Pass from Pokemon, but since Statuses are carried by the Player, what you’re passing is your Type.
So if you have, like, a Tanky Stardigrade up front, and want to switch into a heavier hitter, but your heavy hitter is a bit more fragile and also type-weak to the attacker?
Crossfade.
Stardigrade tanks the hit, then the switch happens and your new Cassette also remains an Astral type.
My brain is in full overdrive as I’m picking apart this battle system. Forcing Glass type and hitting opponents with Resonance seems to be a popular boss-killer in the community as well.
This game is so good.
Edit- Oh, and the kicker. Most Cassettes have 10 slots for stickers. With rare stickers able to increase the number of slots to a hard cap of 16 SLOTS.
